What We Teach
The only pitches we teach young students are: Four-seam fastball, four-seam box change, two-seam fastball, and a two-seam box change. Four pitches, four spots, four speeds and four different types of movement. When kids are taught to throw with their body, the ball naturally gets movement from the back leg coming up and over. A ball that moves regardless of the speed, is very difficult for kids to hit. The BODY does all the work and the ARM comes along for the ride. This is effective because we are teaching the correct movements and fundamentals early on, and we are creating muscle memory.
Many coaches want to train kids using the towel drill, flat ground pitching, weighted balls and long toss. There is NO scientific proof that ANY of that helps! There is, however, research that indicates many of there practices lead to injury. I don’t take a chance on your kid’s arm, just because I believe it will help. We only do what modern science and medical professionals teach us, and it has helped many of my students excel in their potential and realize their goals.
I would like you to understand that 60% of high school and 40% of little leaguers pitch with pain. In 26 years and over 1,200 pitchers, NONE of our kids (ages 8 – 31) have EVER pitched with pain. If you want your pitcher, at any age, to throw more strikes, learn to use his body not his arm, be more successful, and have more enjoyment on the mound in addition to pitching pain-free...I am the coach you are looking for.
